Veterans Retreat

military veteranWhite House Jesuit Retreat in St. Louis hosted an Ignatian retreat for veterans last month. As reported on the Jesuits’ website:

“St. Ignatius himself was a veteran,” said Bill Schmitt, lay director of White House and a Vietnam veteran. “He was injured in battle and wanted books of heroism and chivalry, and they brought him books on the saints. He got interested and received a spiritual awakening while he was recovering.”

The retreat took the idea of finding God in all things and invited participants to “focus on their military experience and how God was with them and continues to be with them.” It is expected to be an annual offering at the retreat house.

  1. Wonderful news! I am glad to hear of such a retreat. Here at Loyola Marymount University, los angeles, the past 3 years have been doing similar 1 day retreats on “Moral injury, PTSD, Soul repair.” It is good to have the Catholic voice in on all of this.
