A Prayer to Begin Summer

Praying Through the SummerIn June, July, and August, we’ll be “Praying Through the Summer” here at dotMagis. Each Monday we’ll explore different ways to pray inspired by the season, the warmer temperatures and, perhaps, vacation time. Today we start with a prayer.

A Prayer to Begin Summer

For more light in the day, we thank you,

For gentle mornings, we thank you,

For nighttime conversations, we thank you,

For friends and family, we thank you,

For gardens and all manner of creatures, we thank you.

Help us, Creator and lover of our souls.

Help us love this earth.

Help us dwell wholeheartedly in our lives this day.

Help us pray as we walk, work, play, rest, and create.

Amen.

How can you have an Ignatian summer?

  1. As our family gathers for dinner tonight we will say this prayer and look forward to many more summer nights together with family and friends.

  2. Thank You, for the beautiful prayer, I pray, a lot and enjoy the nature.
I make the time to enjoy all things, watch the birds, and the leaves, flowers and quiet walks. Maria

  3. You can have an Ignatian summer by finding God (being open to finding God) as you work in your garden, walk in the park, swim, gather with friends at a BBQ and see God in them, notice the summer breeze on your cheek, or watch a sunset. I find God in all these duirng the summer and am inspired by the many ways Ignatius offers us to seek the magis.

  4. Vinita, this beautiful prayer embraces the different pace of summer and the wonderful aspects of our lives that aren’t as easy to experience in the winter months – at least in our northern climates. Thank you!

  5. With the light, I have been arising much earlier, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the sunrise over the trees and garden before the world is awake. I love this prayer, and will print it out to say along with my morning meditation. Thank you.
