The Ignatian Spirituality Project is a most impressive ministry–a program that brings the graces of the Spiritual Exercises to homeless people, most of whom struggle with addiction to alcohol and drugs. It operates in 20 cities and involves more than 400 lay volunteers. ISP programs address spiritual issues, but a recent study shows that participants experience long-term change measurable in improvements in employment, housing, and other empirical factors. Said executive director Tom Drexler, “we’re making a difference and now we have the numbers to prove it.”
