Ramping Up Spiritually

"Discern: Listening for God's Whispers" by Mark E. Thibodeaux, SJ - book cover next to photo of priest-author

Fr. Mark E. Thibodeaux, SJ, speaks on the AMDG podcast about discernment. He addresses the idea that we shouldn’t make any changes during times of desolation. While we shouldn’t make any life changes during those times, he says:

Ignatius says, no, I actually do change. I actually kind of turn up the heat on my spiritual life, which means I pray more, maybe I visit with my spiritual director more, maybe I go to Mass more. So I actually kind of ramp everything up when I’m in desolation, because I need to, since I’m not in the best of states in my spiritual life.

Listen to the full conversation below, and learn more in Fr. Thibodeaux’s book, Discern: Listening for God’s Whispers.

  1. What a fabulous spiritual treat. The Reverend Mark Thibodeaux, Eric Clayton and his team out there have placed before us the nuances of the Ignatian discernment. Productive questions and constructive responses for the benefit of pilgrims and seekers in modern times. Thanks guys.
