What Stirs You to Love

2016: A Book of Grace-Filled Days by Jessica Mesman GriffithSt. Teresa said, “The important thing is not to think much but to love much; and do that which best stirs you to love.”

Divine love is beyond our comprehension, but we must begin somewhere. I think of Merry’s advice to Pippin in The Lord of the Rings: “It is best to love first what you are fitted to love.”

The hobbits were fitted to love the shire. Their deep roots and affection for the things of home enabled them to care for the troubles of the greater world that was beyond their grasp. We, too, can start at home and see the love for our families as a signpost to something greater.

  1. Love needs trust and both are primary needs when you look at Maslow scale of Development or Ericsson stages of development. These ate core issues which need early delivery and inclusion. without trust, love has a hard time developing when the home is not trusting. All this, love, trust, and the ability to make a difference does start at home. People need to be able to trust within the home, the trust move to love and then all is set to take that trust and love to others.
