Mary’s Whispers

Mary statue with rosary in garden - (c) OnTheWind - VividaPhotoPC/iStock/Getty ImagesOn a cold evening many years ago, a 16-year-old girl gave birth to a baby boy. As she cradled him, a deep sense of love and responsibility filled her. Later that night, she woke and, by instinct, found her way to the nursery. Pressing her hand against the glass, she whispered, “I will always love you.”

I don’t remember my mother saying those words, but I know she lived them. She worked tirelessly, guiding me with faith and ensuring I honored God and others. Through exhaustion and hardship, she remained devoted to Jesus and the Blessed Mother, seeking strength through prayer.

Like my mother, Mary nurtured, protected, and suffered for her Son. Though born without sin and crowned Queen of Heaven, she knew the weight of motherhood with its joys and the sorrows. This is why Marian devotion endures; in her, we find a mother who understands.

At its heart, the Rosary is a conversation with Mary and a journey through the life of Christ as seen through a mother’s eyes. Each bead marks a moment: a joyful birth, a sorrowful sacrifice, a luminous revelation, or a glorious triumph.

Praying the Rosary is like flipping through a sacred scrapbook with Mary as our guide. It invites us to look closely, listen deeply, and discover the love and mercy woven into Jesus’ life. It is not mere repetition but contemplation, a mystery that unfolds through faith.

On that cold and holy night long ago, a mother whispered words of love to her son. Through the Rosary, Mary whispers them still.

Dedicated to my mom, 1953–2024.
